About Us

Gwandalan Social Golf Club is attached to the Gwandalan Bowling Club after moving its operations from the Munmorah Bowling Club in 2003.  The club plays on a fortnightly basis at a variety of courses on the Central Coast and nearby areas.  The club caters for players of all standards with A, B and C grades and handicaps ranging up to a maximum of 40.  A barbeque and presentation is held back at Gwandalan Bowling Club after all games except those played at Tuggerah where the presentation is held straight after the game in the club house.

Handicapping

It is the aim of this club to share the winning around.  We hope that our handicapping system helps in achieving this.  A player's own determination to improve his/her game also helps in this regard.

For a complete run down on our handicapping system click here, "Club Regulations" and scroll down to "Handicaps".

If you still aren't sure about the handicapping system being used see the Handicapper, Mal Hobson.

Social Club Rules and Constitution

Club Constitution

Club Regulations

STARTING TIME

  • All players must report to the starter no later then ten (10) minutes prior to the start of play.
  • Penalty of one (1) stroke.

TREE ROOTS

  • Relief may be obtained when an extending tree root threatens to damage a players club.
  • Relief is not available if the ball is at the base of a tree and the repositioning of the ball improves its line of flight.
  • Only the player’s maker is to rule on this and the ball is to be repositioned by the marker.

PREFERRED LIES

  • Thirty (30) cm preferred lie on the fairway only.  Ball is to be played where it lies when in the rough except as in the rule concerning Tree Roots (Part 2) above.

LOST BALL

  • A ball deemed to be lost whether in a hazard or elsewhere, except out of bounds, may be replaced and played from the position estimated by the marker to be a fair position with a penalty of one (1) stroke.

OUT OF BOUNDS

  • Provision exists for a provisional ball to be hit if a player believes he may have hit a ball out of bounds.  If this is not played and a player finds that his ball has gone out of bounds he may:
  • Return to the position from which the ball was last played and play it again with a one (1) stroke penalty, or ;
  • Take a drop within two (2) club lengths of the point of entry to the out of bounds area with a two (2) stroke penalty.

LOCAL RULES

  • Displayed “Local Rules”, at the course, are to be observed subject to confirmation by the Club Captain or acting starter.

TIED SCORES IN CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • A sudden death play off is to take place beginning at a hole determined by the Club Captain on the day.

GIMMEES

There are to be no “Gimmees”, all putts must be completed. (added 17 Mar 08)

AMBROSE COMPETITIONS

  • When the best ball has been chosen it may be marked and lifted.
  • Each player may place his/her ball within one (1) club length of the mark.
  • The club length is not to be used to obtain relief from hazards or rough.
  • On the green any player may elect to putt out without marking the ball.  If missed this putt counts against the team.

SLOW PLAY

  • It is the responsibility of the lowest marker to ensure that his/her group DOES NOT fall further than one (1) fairway behind the group in front. A one stroke Penalty now applies.

CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFICATIONS

"Any financial member who has a current handicap, earned from playing with Gwandalan BC Social Golf club, is entitled to play in either the Singles or Pairs championships"  For more information on Championships see Club Regulations.

Golf Jokes and Trivia  (email in your favourites)

Arthur is 90 years old.

He's played golf every day since his retirement 25 years ago.

One day he arrives home looking downcast.
"That's it", he tells his wife.  "I'm giving up golf.  My eyesight has
got so bad.... once I've hit the ball, I can't see where it went."
His wife sympathizes, and makes him a cuppa.

As they sit down she says, "Why don't you take my brother with you, and
give it one more try".
"That's no good" sighs Arthur.  "Your brother's a hundred and three.  He
can't help".
"He may be a hundred and three", says the wife, "but his eyesight is
perfect".
So the next day Arthur heads off to the golf course with his
brother-in-law.

He tees up, takes an almighty swing and squints down the fairway.

He turns to the brother-in-law.
"Did you see the ball?"
"Of course I did!"
"Where did it go?" says Arthur.

"I can't remember

RESULT SHEET

You will find that the results, handicaps and points are displayed differently this season.  They are all on the same sheet which you can get to by clicking on the date on the "Season Calendar" of the last game played.  Obviously if we haven't played a game yet then nothing is attached to the date and course.  If the little hand comes up as you point the mouse at a date then it is live and has a file attached.  Also if the type face is blue it is live and attached to a file.  If the type face is black there is nothing there yet.

Take your time to study the sheet and you'll soon get the hang of how it is arranged.  The left hand columns before your name show your handicap, points, how many nearest to the pins you've won, how many games you've played and the Grade you were in before you played the game.  The far right set of columns shows the same stuff but it has been changed because of what you did in the game.  The word "Play" at the top of the right side set of columns lets you know what handicap you will play at in the next game.
In the middle, in the set of columns after your name, you will find your score on the day, your handicap adjustment for the day, how many points you scored on the day, how many NTTP you won on the day and whether you were a Grade winner or Runner-up or a front 9 or back 9 winner on the day.
